Welcome to Class 1
During the Summer term, class 1 will be learning all about the body and what we need in order to grow. We have already started to make comparisons between what we need to grow and what plants need to grow.
This week we have been planting some Sunflower seeds and some Cress seeds.
We are going to keep a weekly diary of our Sunflowers.
Please visit our page each week and watch our Sunflowers grow.
We worked with Miss Bradley, Mrs Blackmore and Miss Webb to plant our sunflower seeds. We had to think carefully about what a sunflower needs in order to grow. We followed instructions from Miss Webb on how to plant our sunflower seeds. We really enjoyed planting our sunflower seeds and we can't wait to see them grow.
First we filled out plant pot with soil.
We then made a little hole in the soil in the middle of our plant pot.
Next we put our sunflower seeds into the hole and covered it with soil.
We then watered our plant pots.
Finally we put them into a large tray. We will now wait patiently for our sunflowers to grow.
We were very excited to look at our sunflowers this week. Some children are extremely happy as some of our sunflowers have started to grow. We looked as a class at one another's sunflowers and compared how our sunflower looked next to our partners. We had to think carefully about why some sunflowers are growing quicker than others.
The children thought of some really good questions and made some very good comments when observing their sunflowers.
Darcey 'My sunflower has grown but why is the seed on the top of the flower?'
Antonia 'My sunflower has not grown yet. It needs some more water and to go into the sun.'
Joseph 'All three of my sunflower seeds have started to grow.'
Class One have been thinking about foods that we believe are healthy and foods we believe may be unhealthy. We went in small groups to visit Greenfield Tesco. The very friendly staff invited us to try a range of fruits in store.
Some of the fruits we tried included Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Melon and Mango.
Oliver 'I don't like the Blackberries. I like the strawberries.'
Mai 'My favourite fruit is the Kiwi.'
Katie 'I like the Mango best.'
