Science

Properties of Materials

We tested different materials to see whether they would conduct electricity or whether they were electrical insulators.

We wrapped beakers of warm water in different materials to find out which was the best thermal insulator. We found that tin foil kept the water the warmest for longest!

Earth and Space

We used Oreos to show the different phases of the moon, looking at how it changes throughout its 28 day orbit.

Forces

We tested the affects of air resistance by making different sized parachutes and releasing them. Each group made a parachute of a different size, and we found that the largest one took the longest to fall because it had a larger surface area and created more air resistance.

We used Newton meters to measure the effect of gravity on different objects.

We used toy cars and ramps made from different materials to monitor how the amount of friction provided by some surfaces can affect the speed of the object.
