Curriculum 

Intent

Our curriculum has been designed to promote and sustain a thirst for knowledge and understanding and a love of learning.  We cover a wide range of subjects and provide opportunities for academic, creative and sporting excellence.  Emphasis is placed on acquiring, developing and applying core skills in reading, writing, communication and mathematics.

Implementation  -BREADTH

 At Greenfield Primary School, discussion and analysis of our children’s backgrounds, experiences and culture has helped us to design a curriculum ensuring excellence and enjoyment is underpinning every subject. We believe that by combining and focusing on the following key priorities our children will be ready to successfully meet the challenges of the next stage of their education and beyond.

Our key words are:

Excellence – Children have the opportunity to achieve academic excellence across all areas of the curriculum.

Enjoyment – Children have the opportunity to enjoy their learning which helps them to achieve their potential.  

 

 Impact

Our curriculum and assessment are integrated partners and measures the impact of our curriculum.  Together they set out what children are expected to know, understand and do, and when.

 

Curriculum Statement-BALANCE

 At Greenfield Primary School we believe that every child should feel valued and experience the feeling of success in a wide range of curriculum areas. We believe that this feeling of achievement can impact on attitudes, confidence and aspirations and, when children believe in themselves, they are determined to tackle any challenges they face.

We have designed our curriculum so that, at any age, children receive an appropriate mix of academic and personal development subjects. Whilst we recognise that the core skills in English and maths are the foundations, in practice our curriculum places equal importance in all areas of the curriculum.

 

 Our balanced approach to the curriculum complements the core subjects. We expect and endeavour to reach the highest possible standards so that children leave this school with good English, maths and science skills, understanding and knowledge. These are essential if they are to succeed at the next stage of their education and go on to achieve full and happy lives and careers.

 

Our full and rich curriculum, with its excellent range of experiences, ensures that children make very good progress academically and personally. Our unique curriculum with its focus on regional links in Oldham and Saddleworth and aspirations for the future, ensures that every child is given the opportunity to shine and flourish and develop their Cultural Capital.

 At Greenfield Primary School, our definition of progress is the widening and deepening of essential knowledge, skills, understanding and learning behaviours. We design, organise and plan our curriculum to ensure that children are not merely covering content but achieve a depth to their learning which enables them to use their skills and understanding in all areas of the curriculum.

 

Our careful curriculum design and planning means that we build in many opportunities for repetition and practise opportunities for essential knowledge, skills and understanding in every subject. This ensures that children revisit previous learning which allows them to gradually develop a deeper understanding of the skills and processes within subjects, at their own pace and in the best possible way for each individual child.

 

Our curriculum is meticulously designed, refined and planned to move the nature of children's thinking to a higher order deep level of understanding rather than just acquiring new facts and knowledge.
