Greenfield Primary School

Welcome to Greenfield Primary School.

Early Years

The early years curriculum at Greenfield Primary School is unique in many ways. The children in Nursery and Reception learn best through play-based hands on experiences. Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum policy and Nursery prospectus (which can be located below) explain how we design and implement our curriculum using the children as our inspiration. We aim to harness their interests and nurture their natural desire to learn through an ambitious series of adult-led themes.

We are one of few schools registered to accommodate two year old's in the borough. Our Nursery children are taught by a qualified teacher and a team of highly skilled experienced early years teaching assistants. Please note, our Nursery opens term time only.

Our physical environment has been beautifully designed. We are fortunate to have had the opportunity when we opened our new school building four years ago, to design our classroom environments with a specialist company. We also have a large outdoor area that is accessible from each of our classrooms and is enclosed so that we can incorporate outdoor learning opportunities into our day regardless of whether other year groups are outdoors. We also make regular use of our dance studio. Our Nursery and Reception classrooms have a very similar aesthetic for continuity for the children.

Our Nursery is sessional which means that we aim to accommodate your child for the hours you request, as we are aware that each family has unique childcare requirements. Some of the Nursery children come for full days whereas others come part time. This is something we discuss with families on your initial visit or contact with us. If you are a prospective parent wishing to know more about our school and specifically about our early years classes where most children join school, I would be happy to answer any questions. Initial appointments can be made over the phone or in person whilst having a tour of our school.

We pride ourselves in building relationships with each family, working in partnership with parents. Staff are available on a daily basis for a quick chat as and when needed.

Although our curriculum areas differ to those in the National Curriculum, we believe that children in Nursery and Reception at Greenfield Primary School will receive the highest quality foundation in learning across all areas. Therefore, the teaching of subjects such as Geography, History and Music begins in Nursery, although we may not use these terms with the children, and will teach them in a cross-curricular way. We feel it is important to note that the foundations for learning in every area are laid in the early years, and what a privilege it is to teach our youngest learners!

Please also take a look at our Nursery tab on the school home page and Reception tab under 'class pages' for examples of current learning.
