Greenfield Primary School

Welcome to Greenfield Primary School.

What was rationing and why did it happen during the war?

Year 3 have been learning about what rationing means and why it was important during the war.

We discussed that it wasn't just food that was rationed but also bedding and clothes too.

We discussed how things were rationed for 14 years... even after the war had ended and discussed why this may have happened.

The children got to imagine that their home and all of its belongings had been blown up during the war. They had to plan their wardrobe from scratch using 76 ration coupons. This helped the children realise how little they would have had at the time compared to what we have now.
