Our classroom displays

2nd July 2021

This week we took part in our whole school Olympic celebrations.

25th June 2021

At the beginning of the week Freeze Girl visited our classroom and she froze the water in our water tray! She also trapped her cape in the window! We wrote her a letter to thank her for her icy gift and we told her we would look after her cape. We have also had a lovely week celebrating difference and diversity. The children enjoyed painting rainbows to create a new classroom display, they wrote kindness letters to their friends and gave compliments to their friends and staff. 🌈😊

We have had another super week in Elm class and we have also enjoyed some warmer weather. ☀️ We have been working hard in Phonics and we are making great progress with our segmenting and blending skills. This is also helping us with our reading and writing. We have been busy developing our knowledge of number in Maths and we have been looking after the beans that we planted last week. We will be bringing our beans home over the Easter holidays to look after and the Year 1 children will be keeping a bean diary. Have a lovely Easter holiday everyone! 🌸🌳👍

This week in maths we have been looking at weight. We have been using balancing scales to compare the weight of different objects and introduced mathematical terms such as: heaviest and lightest.

Today, we used kitchen scales to compare the weights of different ingredients. We followed a recipe and baked our own biscuits. We had lots of fun and they tasted delicious!

I have attached the simple recipe we used below if our home learners want to have a go at baking some biscuits at home too!

100g butter

50g caster sugar

150g self-raising flour

1. Mix the butter and caster sugar together in a bowl with a wooden spoon.

2. Sieve the flour into the mixture and mix well.

3. Use your hands to make the ingredients into a dough, then separate into small balls and make biscuits shapes.

4. Place biscuit shapes onto a greased baking tray and place in a preheated 180°C oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

5. Leave biscuits to cool and then enjoy!

22nd January 2021

We have had another exciting and busy week learning at school and at home. Well done to all the children who are doing a wonderful job with their home learning activities and a big thank you to the parents for your support! 🙂 This week we have been castle building, solving Maths problems and we’ve also been to the Dough Disco!

We have been very busy learning both in school and at home. We have been learning about the Queen and have created portraits of her. We have also designed our own palaces and castles which we are going to junk model next week. 🏰 Thank you to all our parents who have sent us pictures and videos of your children learning at home!

We have had a lovely time at our Christmas party!

20th November

We have been busy again this week as we explored new learning opportunities and also took part in a whole school craft day. We have made some lovely Christmas decorations as we prepare to decorate our classrooms and the whole school on the run up to Christmas. It also provided lots of opportunities to develop our fine motor skills too. 👍🖐✂️✏️🖍

13th November

What a busy and exciting week we have had! As well as taking part in lots of learning opportunities we raised money for Children in Need and also welcomed a visitor to our classroom. The children were very excited to meet the bear from the book 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. 🐻 They had lots of questions to ask him and his answers helped us to create bear fact files. He wasn't able to stay in class unfortunately as he was getting ready to hibernate with his family for the winter. Check out this week's home learning tasks on Purple Mash- they link to the story. Maybe you could tell a grown up a fact about bears that you now know. 🐻

6th November

It has been wonderful to see everyone back at school after the half term break. We have had another busy week which ended with an outbreak of mischievous peas in our classroom! We have read the story 'Supertato' and designed and talked about our own superheroes. The children helped collect up all the peas and put them in a box...with a lid!! We also explored 'pea slime', made superhero masks and created firework pictures with chalk.

We are nearing the end of our first full week in school. We are so proud of our new Reception children who have settled very well and have enjoyed a busy and exciting week exploring their new surroundings. It has also been lovely to meet all our new parents too! smiley We are also very proud of our Year 1 children who have quickly settled back into school life.

This week we have shared the story 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas. The children have produced some lovely work which will contribute to a colourful classroom display.

They have also created their own self portraits.
