Homework

This year, most homework will be set online through Ed Shed, Times Table Rock Stars (TTRockstars), and sentence work in your child’s homework book. Homework is really important for reinforcing and embedding learning covered in class. Logins are provided on the back of your child's reading record.

Homework this year will include:

  • Practising spellings (which can be found on Spelling Shed) and any other way which helps your child learn their spellings,

  • TT Rockstars, practising the term’s multiplication and division facts.

  • Reading records, please aim to read with your child three times a week. This will help them become fluent readers, repeating the same book develops their familiarity with words.

  • Sentences: writing sentences which incorporate the week’s spellings.

Reading with your child at home

Reading records will be sent home every Friday and are required to be brought back into school by Wednesday at the latest to allow enough time to change your child's book.

Times tables

The children in Year 3 are working very hard on their times tables. At the end of Year 4, the children will complete the UK Government's National Multiplication Check. In order to prepare for this, please ensure that your child is practising their times tables frequently (ideally a few minutes each day). We are extremely competitive and we want to make our heatmap green!

🧒🏿👦🏼🏳️‍🌈❤️Diversity week❤️🏳️‍🌈👧🏽👩🏼‍🦰

The children have been celebrating Diversity Week. We have talked about what diversity means and we have linked it to our British Values. We wrote a character description about ourselves, focussing on what makes us amazing and unique.

Ancient Egypt Morning

Year 3 enjoyed a morning of Ancient Egypt activities. We completed Egyptian maths after learning about weighing hearts against a feather in order to get into the Afterlife. We completed a search for missing artefacts whilst learning all about them. After break, we tried different Egyptian foods: peppermint tea with honey, pitta bread, hummus, melon, fig, apricots, and pomegranate seeds. Later on, we mummified a tomato, scooped out its insides and used bicarbonate of soda and salt to preserve it. We will check on them after half term to see if we embalmed them correctly!

World Book Day 07/03/24

We celebrated World Book Day as a school. We enjoyed dressing up, creating bookmarks, using oil pastels, and listening to an amazing author, Vanessa Taylor talk about her books. In the afternoon, we visited our friends in Reception and enjoyed reading to them.

13.11.2023

In Lime Class, we celebrated Anti-bullying week by wearing odd socks. We did this to celebrate our differences and everything that makes us unique and wonderful. In the morning, we also wrote a kind comment about everyone in the class and talked about how the words we use can have a positive or negative effect on other people.

🌍Black History Week🌍

During Black History Week we have been learning about the life of Katherine Johnson. Katherine was a computer for NASA who had to overcome many obstacles to be recognised for her work. We have enjoyed learning about how resilient Katherine was, and how her work has enabled us to learn more about Space.🌙
