SCARF: Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship
Overview
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) is an integral part of Greenfield Primary School. At our school, we use Coram Life Education’s SCARF scheme to plan and resource our PSHE lessons. SCARF provides the framework for a whole-school approach to improving children’s wellbeing and progress, based on five values: safety (S), caring (C), achievement (A), resilience (R) and friendship (F). The SCARF programme of study is organised around the learning outcomes and core themes of the PSHE Association scheme of work. This covers all the required objectives and follows the three core areas of Health, Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World.
Disability Awareness Workshops
The whole school participated in inclusion workshops to enhance awareness and understanding of disabilities. The sessions were conducted by Azim Amir, a professional footballer who plays for England’s blind men’s team. The infants had fun interacting with Dex the dinosaur, who shared items from his backpack related to sensory impairments, such as hearing aids, to encourage conversations about different disabilities. Everyone in school engaged in practical activities designed to give them a sense of what it's like to live with a disability. These included games and sports which involved the use of blindfolds and ear defenders to promote empathy, communication skills and teamwork.
Whole School Diversity Week!
The entire school enjoyed taking part in ‘Diversity Week,’ where we celebrated our individuality and the similarities and differences between us. Throughout the week, we engaged in various activities highlighting different aspects of diversity. We took part in multicultural dance workshops, learned songs about diversity and read and discussed numerous stories and books. Additionally, we held a ‘Dress to Express’ day where we came to school in clothes which represented a part of who we are.
